Brighton Rock - Graham Greene

I confess that after the first couple of pages I wasn't sure I would be able to get into this book. I could not have been more wrong if I had tried. What an amazing story. I fell for the character of Ida in a big way. While reading I was also thinking about what a great movie it would make if made by the right people, and it turns out that it's been filmed twice, once in 1947 and also very recently starring one of my favorite actors, Helen Mirren. I will definitely have to see both films ASAP, as well as read more Greene novels ASAP. He's another author I have been meaning to read for years and now I can't believe I have waited so long to discover how great he is.

  1. Glad to hear about this - Brighton Rock has been on my bookshelf for years - it was one of the first books I bought after really getting into books and reading in general - yet, for some reason, I haven't picked it up to read yet. I have read The Power and the Glory, though (also by Greene) and it was pretty incredible.

  2. I had the same experience with Charles Dickens ! I never read it, afraid I was, that his stories 'd be too sad. Then, I read "David Copperfield", and now want to read all his other novels !

  3. Hi Adam, thanks for stopping by and commenting! I will add The Power and the Glory to my TBR list, so when I can go back to the Library in April (I banned myself for March so I would read my TBR books) I can get ahold of it. Let me know what you think of Brighton Rock when you do read it!

  4. Hi Annie! I'm glad you liked Dickens - I have tried to read his books in the past and I was not able to finish them! I know a lot of people like them, so I think I will try to read one again this year - maybe I will try to read David Copperfield. I will tell you if I read it and what I thought of it!
